ABOUT
REBOUND THERAPY USA

Rebound Therapy was founded in 1972 in the United Kingdom by Eddy Anderson. Rebound Therapy USA, in partnership with Rebound Therapy International, is an educational website that began in 2019 by Joy Umenhofer Stovall and Sigourney Weathers. Joy and Sigourney offer Reboud Therapy certification courses throughout the USA.

BRIEFLY, REBOUND THERAPY is the phrase that describes a specific model of trampoline therapy: exercise therapy which uses a full-sized trampoline to provide opportunities for movement, therapeutic exercise, and recreation for people across virtually the whole spectrum of special needs.

IT IS MORE than special needs trampolining or disability trampolining; Rebound Therapy can provide a huge number of potential benefits.

THE TRAINING COURSE teaches logical progressions of movement patterns designed to encourage the student to continually develop whilst at the same time experiencing healthy exercise and enjoyment.

FOR THESE REASONS, the Rebound Therapy training course is widely accepted as the logical starting point for trampoline coach training - even for those who do not intend to work with disabilities.
The training course has been continually developing since it was first introduced in 1972 and is internationally recognized, approved, and accredited.

Credentialed tutors (Joy Umenhofer Stovall and Sigourney Weathers) are individually responsible for the education and delivery of the original, internationally accredited, and approved Rebound Therapy training course.

WHAT IS REBOUND THERAPY?

Eddy Anderson, the founder of Rebound Therapy, answers the question

THE PHRASE 'REBOUND THERAPY' was coined by the founder, E.G. Anderson, in 1969 to describe the use of trampolines in providing therapeutic exercise and recreation for people with a wide range of special needs. Participants range from mild to severe physical disabilities and from mild to profound and multiple learning disabilities, including dual sensory impairment and autistic spectrum.

REBOUND THERAPY IS used to facilitate movement, promote balance, promote an increase or decrease in muscle tone, promote relaxation, promote sensory integration, improve fitness and exercise tolerance, and to improve communication skills.

THE PRINCIPLES OF Rebound Therapy form the basis of all gymnastic movement and are therefore a logical and advisable starting point for trampoline coach training – even for those who have no intention of teaching people with disabilities.

STUDENTS' PROGRESS IS recorded using the Winstrada development programme. Grades 1, 2 and 3 of this programme are based entirely on the original, accredited and approved 'Eddy Anderson model' training course as detailed on this website. When working with students with profound or complex needs, progress can be accurately measured and recorded using the Huddersfield Functional Index in conjunction with the Winstrada development programme.

THE OFFICIAL UK body, worldwide federation, and consultancy for Rebound Therapy is ReboundTherapy.org. They are responsible for the development and provision of the certificated and accredited training courses, and for the development of overseas training partners.
